design goals
new urban motif and traffic thread over the Drava River
linked to the European Capital of Culture project
issuer
City Municipality of Maribor
Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning of Slovenia
motif
two form fields, three bearer fields. Shape descends from direction of denser and higher-mounted, historically significant downtown. Rim passes around bridge deck in a helical line. Shape is a mutation of main spar design of the main bridge. Shell rim and shell ribs repeat the parabolic pattern of bridge arches. Ribs are connected in a lightweight spatial truss. Two river piers aligned to the old bridge pillars
conformity
bridge desk follows a broken line pattern from pillar to pillar. Panorama and townscape change by section. Truss shell also diverts attention, longer period listens to the east while shorter period to the west. Side view of the deck is a regular circle, fitting unchanged border level of public road at Lent, and unchanged promenade level at Tabor. Ferry gauge under the bridge measures 21 meters wide in the middle field and 13 meters wide by the right bank. Bridge fits the southern edge of riverside square planned on the right bank, and joins the circulation and sight flow of Taborska street. Waterfront by the square with prospect and ferry station remain free
structure
there are loaded parabolic strings running in the shell surface. Strings are linked into a lightweight rigid spatial truss. Shell is wrapped around the bridge deck. There is a constant distance in between shell and bridge deck measuring 75 cm. This is important for electrical, lighting and, possibly, mechanical installation, as well as water leaving, protection against corrosion and structural maintenance. Theoretical truss grid is 200 cm, lenght of truss bars is 170…270 cm. One cannot climb onto the structure. Sidewalk is illuminated by hidden lights from the skirting line booth side
material
granite pillars, steel structure, prefabricated concrete deck frame, granite paving, glued glass barrier
